Abstrak

Indonesia, home to 275 out of 400 types of spices in the world, had long played a significant role in the global spice trade. However, the potential of local spices, particularly in regions such as Maluku, was often underutilized—especially by younger generations. To address this issue, the Jejak Muda Indonesia initiative launched the Sekolah Rempah (Spice School) program at SDN 154 Maluku Tengah in Banda Neira, aiming to enhance awareness and skills related to local spices such as cloves and nutmeg. This study was conducted to analyze the implementation and impact of the Sekolah Rempah program in empowering students by improving their knowledge, skills, and pride in local resources. A descriptive qualitative approach was applied, involving initial surveys, the development of spice-based learning materials, hands-on training, and daily evaluations. Data were collected through pre-test and post-test scores, observations, and student feedback. The program was found to significantly improve students’ knowledge and skills, with average test scores increasing from 45% to 82%. A total of 88% of students reported increased pride in local spices, and some began exploring small projects and businesses based on spice products. Challenges such as limited facilities and program sustainability were identified but could be addressed through community collaboration. The Sekolah Rempah program was proven effective in empowering students through education rooted in local potential, promoting sustainability, and fostering economic awareness. This program was considered replicable in other regions with adequate facilities, curriculum integration, and ongoing stakeholder collaboration.
